I don't know why I bothered, but I picked up my latest copy of mtl Magazine. Starting with Susan Morgans' story on her former neighbor's garden, her home & garden guide, and then coming to Steve Silverman's commissioner's report, I had to stop reading.
Theoretically, the deer killing would have still been in progress, had J. Merlin Benner not ended his contract with Mt. Lebanon. What did Steve Silverman write about? How about we take a walk in one of Mt. Lebanon's passive parks? According to Steve, we have three passive parks: Bird Park, Robb Hollow, and Twin Hills. What about McNeilly Park? The Conservation District? I questioned the designation of those two areas during the deer killing. Was anyone harassed by Benner's boys or the corn patrol for being in either of those locations after 9:00 PM? Parks close at 9:00 PM, we were told. According to Commissioner Silverman and the Public Information Office which put together the magazine, we are now being told that there are only three passive parks in Mt. Lebanon. I'm so confused!
Does Mr. Silverman realize that residents were stopped by police for walking on the outskirts of Bird Park? During daylight hours! Yet, in his commissioner's report, Steve is encouraging us to visit one of our passive parks. Really, Steve? Are you in denial? How about you, PIO? Weren't you making residents out to be vandals, while they were being questioned by police and then asked for photo ID just for walking on sidewalks or in parking lots?
Is this part of the cooling off period? Is pretending nothing horrible happened in the parks part of your plan? Do you think we are stupid and will forget? Enough with the brainwashing! Thought reform in the People's Republic of China was a campaign by the Communists in the early 50's. In present day, thought reform can be found right here in Mt. Lebanon. Seriously, Susan, retire. Steve, very poor timing.

An odd suggestion sending people into the scrubgrass in the passive parks. Don't they understand that if the rabid deer don't get you the deer ticks will! People may go into these passive parks and never be seen again. Pave them with turf, save the children!

I tortured myself by looking through the magazine as well.
Found it ironic that Steve was calling some of our parks "passive" after all the violence and bloodshed they were seeking to have in several of these parks - 'passive' ones included. Threre was nothing 'passive' about the idiotic-never-been-tried-before deer killing plan.
Susan's piece was even worse, because it represents what needs to be eradicated from MTL if it is to survive - but yet this wing of idiocy still thrives as it clings to power. Her 'garden reflection' was vapid, self-centered, self-indulgent, pointless, and extremely entitled and removed from reality.
MTL, it is time to grow up. Yes, some women (and men) in their 60s need to grow up - when they have been coddled and sheltered for so long... Susan M. is at the top of this list in this town...

I skipped to the article about "crash analysis" and once I read that there was a fatality last year on the same stretch of washington road that there was a serious accident with injuries, i put it down.
what value does mt lebanon put on life? not blaming the police or anyone for the fatality but in other areas, deaths are marked, made known and changes are made.

There are wild beast in our parks, everything from turkeys, coyotes wolves to "gasp"....... deer and ticks.
Woman have already broken legs and hips on their front steps and lawns because of the "wild" deer and now you want them to wander out into the Mt. Lebanon wilderness and mingle with them.
I wouldn't step one foot into a passive park without some supersonic, full metal jacketed ammo in a thirty round banana clip, Benner showed me how risky it is to go out with anything less.
It takes a lot of lead to take down a Lebo whitetail!
Bird Park is not a passive park - it has a major athletic (soccer) field, picnic shelter, play equipment, outdoor grill and fire pit and two vehicular parking areas. McNeilly Park is a passive park as is the 5.7 acre Hoodridge Park off Connor Road which connects to the 5 acre Conservation District which is technically not a park.
Good heavens Silverman and Morgans, get your facts straight before you make further fools of yourselves - another classic case of no fact checking before you make inaccurate public statements.
What a relief to have the deer killing corrals out of our parks, and no men dressed in camouflage running around with AR-15 semi-automatic weapons. So nice to reclaim our beautiful and peaceful parks, and to occasionally get a glimpse of a gentle doe, and not have to worry that she will be trapped and have her brains blown out by Benner's men that night
More on the inaccuracy of the *mtl* magazine - the bakery article. Take note - there are more than four bakeries in the bubble, Public Misinformation Officer Morgans (who supposedly proofreads for accuracy and approves all articles in the rag). How about Panera Bread in the Galleria, even the new Dunkin' Donuts and the bakery section in Giant Eagle near the Manor for instance where baking and sales both take place ? Look up the definition of bakery.
It's getting to where you just cannot totally believe anything that comes out of 710 Washington Road.

Isn't it the least bit curious that we never got any LeboAlerts to be on guard for someone hunting in our community? Someone suspected of walking around with a urine-loaded SuperSoaker makes front page news, but someone firing a weapon that can actually kill people and mums the word from the PIO.
Sure the local ordinances against discharging any type of weapon in MTL are overruled, but that doesn't mean the Game Commission laws have. It's still illegal to hunt without a license, there must be safe zones, and the hunter is required to pursue a wounded animal.
Now these are just 4 incidents. What if this archer is taking down more deer in close proximity to residences. What if one of these days they miss completely and kill someone.
Weren't the commissioners afraid of someone being killed in a deer/vehicle accident? Why no concern about an illegal hunting accident?

Seems to be the attitude lately towards most of the positions in the municipal offices.
Close seems now counts in project bidding, traffic ticket enforcement and reporting.
All this time close only counted in horseshoes and handgrenades.

I reported seeing a buck with an arrow in its side near Bethel Park and I cannot get the minutes corrected. Just like the bogus Deer Incident Report of August 20, 2014.

Hate to burst your protective bubble 3:37, but those boogiemen are out during daylight too.
6:55, you are correct, distracted drivers who seem to be the major cause of accidents in Mt. Lebanon nowadays don't care what time of day or night it is.

Back when Linfante was recommending that people come from everywhere with their tree stands and help themselves to our Mt.L deer, I was approached from a concerned citizen of Upper St. Clair who said that we should be prepared for the "Drive-By Yahoos." When I asked what she was talking about, she said that for some 10-yrs. now USC has been the scene of many rednecks in pickups who stop by the side of the road whenever they spot a deer; get out and kill it; gut the deer where it drops, leaving the innards to attract birds and wild animals; throw the gutted carcass in the back of the truck; and disappear as quickly as they came. Hmmm...we've always wanted to be USC; maybe this is finally our chance...
And, as for our "passive parks", I don't think I'll ever think of Bird Park, OR the police, the same way, again. I guess we just don't have enough real crime in our picture-perfect town to keep the guys busy enough.
(I forget if I'm Anonymous; I HATE RATS, TOO; or Dorothy when discussing my lawful walk in the park that lovely, sunny Sunday afternoon. Oh well...I'm sure I must still be ONE of them! And I'm pretty sure this isn't Mt. Lebanon any more, so I'm thinking I MUST be Dorothy.) Does anybody know how to get to Mt. Lebanon?
